The magic of Vail (or, in this case, Minturn)
February 16, 2008 — T.J. doesn't advertise it - in fact he's rather shy about it, but next time you go into the Minturn Country Club ask T.J. Ricci at the bar if he'll do a couple magic tricks for you: it ought to be worth your while.
He may be adverse to the idea, at first. He'll tell you he's a full-time steak slinger, a guy who knows more about USDA prime and fine wine than he does about the powers of illusion.
OK, he has a point, because the MCC has been knocking ‘em dead for almost 30 years, starting with T.J.’s dad, Tom, and it’s for good reason: the Ricci family knows the restaurant biz.
But if the grills aren’t packed with patrons (which they usually are this time of year) it’s worth cajoling T.J. into pulling out a deck of cards doing some things which will sizzle your mind quicker than shrimp on the barbie.
My slights of hand have never gone beyond a few lame parlor tricks, but I happened upon this video and thought of T.J., and of magic in general, and I thought I’d pass it on. Fairly cool, I think, and worth a gander.
