Frogs Gone Fishin' fry the competition

July 7 show awarded to popular Denver band
By Tom Boyd

May 5, 2009 —  A big congrats go out to Frogs Gone Fishin’ for their dominance in the online poll to decide who will play the July 7 Bud Light Hot Summer Nights concert at Ford Amphitheater.

And while the band definitely deserves kudos for putting together a concerted effort to win the online poll, I’ve also got to give a shout out to the Vail Valley Foundation, too, for coming up with a cool way to use the internet to promote the free concert series and bring a band the public clearly wants to hear.

'Round here we love creative uses of the internet.

It’s hard to beat Tuesdays at Ford Amphitheater in summertime. Music sounds better with the Gore Range hanging in the backdrop, and kicking back on the lawn with a picnic basket, family, and friends, is about a good of an evening as I can imagine (especially if I can sneak a paddle in beforehand).

The idea of letting the people choose the band is music to my populist ear … with more on that here is the rest of a press release from the VVF:

The final online tally showed a total of 13,534 votes cast, with Frogs Gone Fishin’ garnering the lion’s share with 6,306. Runner-up honors went to Gaslight Street, while Outformation finished third.

Bonfire Dub, Great American Taxi, DJ Logic, Socialibrium and Global Noize held down the 4-8 positions in the final poll.

Frogs Gone Fishin’ take their audience on a journey through a vast repertoire of rock, funk, soul, blues and reggae. After growing up in Denver, the four members of Frogs attended schools in different cities, including New Orleans, Nashville and Boston, allowing them to experience some of the most interesting music scenes in the nation.

In the spring of 2008, following the completion of their formal education, the Frogs regrouped in Denver to begin an extended period of touring throughout Colorado and the U.S. Their first studio album, “Tell Me True”, is a reflection of the various influences they absorbed during their travels, recorded over the course of a year and a half.

The 2009 edition of Bud Light Hot Summer Nights will officially kickoff June 16 with the Southern soul sounds of J.J. Grey and Mofro. The series will once again team up with the Vail International Dance Festival, with the annual Hot Summer Nights of Dance slated for August 11.

The 2009 Bud Light Hot Summer Nights series is a project of the Vail Valley Foundation. For additional information on Bud Light Hot Summer Nights or the Foundation, visit www.vvf.orgg.
