Connoisseurs in search of Colorado cuisine may find the definitive example at Beano’s cabin. The impressive venue is set against views of Grouse Mountain and the Gore Range, and nightly hosts one of the country’s most memorable dining experiences. Getting to Beano’s can be half the fun. During the summer months, warm weather offers a scenic hour-long horseback ride or wagon ride ands shuttle vans are also available. A snow cat or sleigh ride whisks diners to the cabin in winter. A diverse menu and comfortable atmosphere has made the Dusty Boot a local favorite. Some restaurants over-reach themselves by attempting a diverse menu, but Boot serves steaks, burgers, seafood and Mexican food with equal gusto. Its prime location at St. James place, near the ice rink in the center of Beaver Creek, keep the Boot lively for après ski and dinner, yet it never becomes overly crowded. Contemporary French cuisine of this caliber is difficult to find anywhere else, and certainly nowhere else in the American West. Founded by the late Walter Moritz, LaTour was under close criticism when Chef Ferzacca endeavored to carry on the standards set by Vail’s top chef, yet he and his staff have succeeded without question. If there is an accolade which has been given to a French Restaurant in Vail, this one has received it – yet it’s the local praise heaped on Chef Ferzacca which has been the most impressive.

With three locations, Pazzo’s is a long-established favorite among locals for a slice of pie, a huge calzone, or a brew with the dancing-bones tiles which decorate these comfortable hot-spots. The prices are right and the service matches the friendly atmosphere. There’s plenty of room for big groups or space at one of two bars for grabbing a stool and catching up with old friends. The thin or thick pizza is a must, but on the second visit delve deeper into the menu and try Old World pasta or a sub sandwich.

Quality food combined with fresh fish and ingredients make this beautiful restaurant on the banks of Gore Creek one of Vail’s most remarkable. The waitstaff, management, and overall service at Up the Creek is beyond criticism, and while the food and wine are gourmet, the prices are comparatively reasonable. The cuisine, like the restaurant itself, is subtle and apparently simple, yet complexity is there, just beneath the surface, in the little things which make Up the Creek such a pleasant place to be. In summertime, especially, when kayakers paddle through the nearby kayak park, Up the Creek is at its finest. Recommended by the New York Times and Travel and Leisure.

I was very surprised to see that a local Vail restaurant that has been in business there for over 37 years is not listed in your RealDining section. To find their phone number for a reservation I resorted to looking up their website at leftbankvail.com . It was lucky that I did because they are having a wonderful celebration of Chef Chelain's newly granted American citizenship with Lottery scratch offs!
