August 23, 2008 — The LA Allstars will headline Beaver Creek’s 11th annual Oktoberfest celebration, Aug. 30-31. In addition, the event includes a much-anticipated dose of authentic oom-pah-pah, while outdoor enthusiasts can participate in the second annual Oktoberfest Shuffle.
Bavarians and Bavarians-at-heart – of all ages – should don their Oktoberfest finest to compete in the annual Bavarian costume and Alpenhorn contests. Authentic Oktoberfest cuisine, unbeatable brews, a live auction featuring a trip to Beaver Creek’s sister resort Lech Zurs, Austria, and kid’s activities round out this festive, late summer excuse to unwind in the Rocky Mountains.
Get your shuffle on at the second annual Beaver Creek Oktoberfest Shuffle, presented by the Beaver Creek Resort Company, on Saturday, Aug. 30. Join friends and family for a scenic “hike or hustle” on Beaver Creek Mountain. Proceeds benefit the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, which provides “A Day to Play” program for women in Eagle County who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
The group also supports educational programs and has funded Jack’s place as well as the Sonnenalp Breast Diagnostic Imaging Center within the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
The Oktoberfest Shuffle will kick-off the festivities at Beaver Creek’s annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday with a non-competitive 5K and 10K walk, Nordic walk, hike, or run along picturesque trails throughout the resort.
The Shuffle begins at 10 a.m. in Beaver Creek Village. Day-of registration takes place from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. on Beaver Creek Plaza next to the ice skating rink; cost is $25 for cancer survivors, $30 per person, and $45 for families including up to five people (kids ages 12 and under are free).
Advance registration is available for $20 for cancer survivors; $25 per person, and $40 for families including up to five people until Aug. 29 at www.active.com or at the Beaver Creek Hiking Center, Roxy stores in Vail and Beaver Creek, or Dogma Athletica in Edwards. Kids ages 12 and under are free.
All participants receive a complimentary beer/beverage and a bratwurst, as well as giveaways. The event also includes a live auction, taking place at 4pm on Beaver Creek Plaza, for a trip for two to Beaver Creek’s sister resort Lech, Austria.
For information contact the Beaver Creek Hiking Center at 970-754-5373 or visit www.beavercreek.com.
